(Yesterday’s) Today’s Tracks #6 – Le Trio Joubran & -M-

June 27, 2012

LATE post, i.e. a day late, but here’s the tracks for yesterday.

First up, on the back of the master of Algerian music, Rachid Taha, sharing the stage with the Hillsborough Justice Campaign’s Justice Tonight Tour show in Lyon, I found the remarkable Le Trio Joubran on his Last FM channel.

Although not North African, this Palestinian group play remarkable Oud music, keeping alive the traditions of Arabic music.

Next up is African beat of -M-, Matthieu Chedid, the Paris-born singer songwriter of Lebanese origin from a musical family. His wikipedia stub is here. He’s recorded with many of the biggest names in French music, including one of my favourites, the Parisian hip hop band NTM. The audience reaction to this show is brilliant, what rock and roll should be about.
