The future of local journalism in the USA is outsourcing. Horrifying.

July 2, 2012

My friend Carolyn Drake alerted me to this piece on outsourced local journalism in the USA.

It makes a mockery of the big media groups’ approach to hyper localism and how we reward well trained, highly skilled graduates. Ultimately it makes a mockery to the commitment they have to their own communities. It’s a betrayal. Every betrayal accelerates the circulation and profit declines.

Corporations don’t understand the commitment communities want from their media. As long as they fail to see this, the real losers are journalists and their communities.

View it at the Poynter Institute site here and  listen to it on the This American Life podcast.
