Today’s Tracks #12 – Chromatics, Julia Holter and Soprano

July 5, 2012

BACK to writing in earnest, so it’s a day in a sweat box of an office looking for sound to deaden the thundering horror of ripping painful word after painful word from my head as it constantly refused to work as quickly as I want it to.

Thanks to @thewilsyboy on Twitter who suggested The Chromatics, the Portland, Oregon electronic band – one I would never have dreamed about checking out. Suppose that’s best thing about getting older, you don’t mind listening to stuff you’d never have dreamed of doing so in your teens and early 20s.

Thanks to the Last FM radio for Chromatics, I got to the brilliant vulnerable vocals and eclectic atmospheric baroque music of Julia Holter, a Los Angelean. This interview in Altered Zones says it much better than I can after two listens.

Finally, it’s back to French rap, for Soprano, the Marseilles raised rapper who has been noted for his positive messages aimed at the immigrant youth of his city and France. He’s brilliant, I’ll dosome translations and post them if anyone wants
