Today’s Tracks #13 – Patchworks, McCoy Tyner and Beanfield

July 6, 2012

Mr President aka Patchworks – no idea who the lad is, looks to be French. His blend of nu soul, vintage soul and funk has featured on the Craig Charles Show on BBC 6Music. It’s laid back, classic fayre. I’m putting it to the head of the queue for next week’s dedicated listening.

McCoy Tyner needs no introduction from his work with John Coltrane through to three decades as one of the premier jazz pianists and composers, his beautiful bluesy piano and rocking band make him one of the genres outstanding figures.

There’s a pattern emerging with the stuff I have been listening to most regularly lately: an electronica which mixes rare groove, latin and Brazilian sounds and exists on the verge of Chill Out. I have no idea what a lot of the last sentence meant. Anyway, Beanfield, a German electronica duo do it for me.
