Today’s Tracks #18 – We Need Surgery, Korean Homesick Blues & Congotronics

July 24, 2012

I HAVE so little time to post tonight. However today has been about Korean Indie from one of the best podcasts out there Korean Homesick Blues, which I have mentioned many times before on my other blog and on Twitter and Facebook.

It’s also taken in Congoronics, a brilliant comp from the Congo suggested by @Prestonia_, last seen here talking to the Pogues’ James Fearnley. However, it’s so good, it will be an extended post of its own.

I’m doing a podcast this week with Dave Candler, the man behind Korean Homesick Blues, on Wednesday, and that will be up on Friday this week.

However, my favourite band showcased on KHB has been We Need Surgery, a brilliant North American indie college rock band who sound like American indie college rock should sound for me: wee bits of Dinosaur Junior, the Pixies, Elephant 6-style lo-fi and the Lemonheads. I’m not sure they will approve of that description, but their new album is out in September and I’ll be buying it.

They live in Canada, but formed in Korea, which qualifies them for KHB.

Here’s their mighty Gotta Be This Way.
