July 27, 2012

HELLO BUSAN. ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?: British podcaster Dave Candler of Korean Homesick Blues

I HAVE recorded a podcast interview with my friend Dave Candler (right), a brilliant journalist who has been shining a light on the alternative music of South Korea for about three years.

Dave, from Widnes in Cheshire, is a veteran of the English North West indie and punk scene who found himself in South Korea after nearly a decade living in New York. So what was a pop picking boy to do, but document the music he found there?

Now back in New York, he continues compiling his podcast Korean Homesick Blues and it has been a source of inspiration to me since he started. It has opened my eyes to music far beyond the shores of the River Mersey, where I live.

Go here to listen or download the MP3, and please share this great treasury of music far and wide. Dave’s a great man and his approach to podcasting is wonderful: he’s a journalist shining a light on the unremarked upon corners of the pop culture world – those ignored by the mainstream music press.

Here are YouTube clips of some the best acts from Korean Homesick Blues
